Booklist: children’s books by celebrities

May 29, 2012

By Julia Rogers

In month’s booklist, we’re featuring children’s books by celebrities. I think you’ll be surprised by some of the names you see!

1.  The Magically Mysterious Adventures of Noelle the Bulldog by Gloria Estefan

It’s a far cry from getting everyone to do the conga, but Gloria Estefan branched out into children’s books with this 2005 release. It follows the lovable bulldog Noelle, who struggles to feel at home with her new adopted family.

2.  What Color Is My World?: The Lost History of African-American Inventors by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Aimed at the slightly older crowd, basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar chronicles the little-known inventions by African Americans. For example, the Super Soaker!

3.  Freckleface Strawberry by Julianne Moore

Ginger-haired beauty Julianne Moore tackles the annoyance and eventual embrace of freckles in her Freckleface Strawberry series. It seems her freckles have served her well!

4.  The Hank Zipzer series by Henry Winkler

The Fonz writing children’s books? It has happened… more than once in fact. Winkler has published an entire popular series of books chronicling the misadventures of a young boy with learning differences.

5.  The Alphabet from A to Y With Bonus Letter Z! by Steve Martin and Roz Chast

If it’s Steve Martin, it’s bound to be funny. This book uses Martin’s trademark wit to enchant children as well as the adults who are reading to them. The title alone had me smiling!
