Ted Scheu, the Poetry Guy, visits Effingham Elementary School

June 13, 2012

A few weeks ago, children’s poet Ted Scheu embarked upon a three-day CLiF Writer-in-Residence program at the Effingham Elementary School in Effingham, NH. Before he zooms off to the classrooms for daily writing workshops with all of the classes and grades, Ted likes to begin a residency with a short assembly where he shares some of his fun, rhyming poems, a bit of his own writing trajectory, and thoughts about the power of poetry to make better writers.

He even writes a short list poem on his easel, with the whole group contributing the words. This sets a fun, relaxed tone the the whole rest of the residency. At Effingham, as in most other CLiF residencies, Ted also got together with the young poets and their teachers at the very end of the three days so that the kids could share some of their poems and celebrate their hard work.
